Abstract

Background. Quite often strokes are complicated with aspiration or bleeding from the upper gastrointestinal tract. This situation requires endoscopic intervention for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. The use of loading tests should be minimized, but with no determent to the above-mentioned purposes. This is the purpose of the present study and substantiation of its urgency.
Materials and methods. The proposed variant of integrated endoscopic intervention was performed in 46 neurological patients with acute stroke complicated with  aspiration and continuing bleeding from the upper gastrointestinal tract.
Results. A variant of integrated endoscopic intervention is proposed, it includes 5 successive steps: primary esophagogastroduodenoscopy to reveal bleeding; gastric lavage through a thick tube; repeated esophagogastroduodenoscopy; inserting a permanent nasogastric tube; bronchoscopy.
Conclusions. In this clinical setting, the proposed variant of integrated endoscopic intervention should be considered necessary and sufficient.

Key words
